The Call: Keep the Kettle Boiling
Imagine a kettle sitting on a cold stove. It does nothing until you turn on the fire. Just watching it won’t do anything, you have to turn on the heat source. Once you have the heat source you can turn it up or down.
In Romans 12:11, Paul tells us to turn up the heat in our spiritual lives. The original Greek word for “fervor” literally means “to boil.” God does not want us to have a lukewarm, casual faith. He wants our hearts bubbling over with passion for Him.
The Problem Paul is addressing here is the Danger of a “Spiritual Slump”
It is easy to start your faith journey with excitement. However, daily routines, exhaustion, and stress act like cold water on our fire. We can easily slide into “spiritual slothfulness.”
This means we still go to church or read the Bible, but our hearts are checked out. We do the tasks without the joy.
Paul warns us against this because a cold heart cannot effectively serve a living God.
So How do we Stoke the Fire?
How do we stay boiling when we feel completely drained? You cannot manufacture this energy on your own. You need the right fuel:
- Daily Surrender: Ask the Holy Spirit to refill your tank every single morning.
- Stay Connected: Spend time in prayer and scripture, even when you do not feel like it.
- Shift Your Focus: Remember that your daily work—whether changing diapers, typing reports, building a house or studying—is direct service to the Lord.
- Here at 8 Days of Hope we have a lot of work to do, but remember it’s all for the Lord, It’s to bring Him glory and to share Jesus with the world around us. WE are representing Jesus today and every day!
